Acupuncture Reduces Hot Flashes in Breast Cancer Survivors More than Drugs

New research suggests that electroacupuncture is more effective for treating hot flashes in breast cancer survivors than the commonly used medication gabapentin. The researchers found that receiving electroacupuncture daily for 8 weeks provided fewer side effects than the medication and greater reductions in hot flashes in a group of 120 cancer survivors. Furthermore, the sham acupuncture was also more effective than gabapentin. For more information about acupuncture, please visit our complete monograph.
