Some Supplements Contain Prescription Quantities of Yohimbine

New research shows that many yohimbine-containing supplements sold in US retail stores contain inconsistent amounts of yohimbine. Of 49 tested dietary supplements, only 11 (22%) listed the quantity of yohimbine on the product label; and in those 11 supplements, the actual quantity of yohimbine varied from 23% to 147% of the listed quantity. Additionally, 37% of the tested supplements contained close to or more than prescription drug levels of yohimbine, ranging from 4.26 mg to 12.1 mg per serving. Inconsistencies in yohimbine supplements might increase the risk for adverse events in consumers.
