New clinical research shows that taking synbiotics, a combination of probiotics and prebiotics, and particularly using mixed strains of bacteria, can help treat eczema in children after 8 weeks of treatment. However, it is not clear if synbiotics will help prevent this skin condition. Also, while synbiotics appear to be more beneficial than probiotics, prebiotics alone might offer similar benefits. Additional research is needed to further evaluate the effects of specific probiotic strains and types of prebiotics.
