The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning for consumers to stop giving homeopathic teething gels and tablets to their infants. These teething products have been linked to reports of seizures, difficulty breathing, muscle weakness, excessive sleepiness, constipation, difficulty urinating, and agitation.
In 2010, the FDA issued a similar warning, specifically about Hyland’s teething tablets containing inconsistent amounts of belladonna. The FDA had received reports of serious adverse effects that correlated to belladonna toxicity in infants. Until more information is available, advise parents to avoid homeopathic teething products.
